

Irby Martin, 72, of Baytown, TX was born in Magazine, AR and went to Heaven Friday, September 9, 2005 in a Baytown hospital. He was a Deacon of South Main Baptist Church in Houston and was a US Army veteran. Many of his friends will remember him as a band director in school districts in McGehee, AR, Fayetteville, AR, Waxahachie, Garland, Goose Creek (Baytown’s Ross S. Sterling), and Corsicana. Many of his former students kept up with him over the years and several are music educators throughout the Southwest. He was a member of the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association, Texas Band Masters Association, Phi Beta Mu National School Band Masters Fraternity, and was a charter member of the Texas Music Educators Conference.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Navarre Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2005. At his request, he will be cremated and his family will bring his cremains back to Arkansas.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Audrey Jeannette Martin of Baytown; daughters and sons-in-law, Donnette and Walter Durham of Fort Worth and Yvette and Steve Parker of Keflavik, Iceland; grandchildren, Lewis and Della Durham and Audrey, Jillian, and Ian Parker; sister and brother-in-law, June and Jimmy Trickett of Mansfield; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joe Dan and Joyce Tucker of Titusville, FL and Carolyn Standley of Monticello, AR; a niece and two nephews; many cousins; and a host of friends.
