Ivan loved to travel and one of his favorite places to visit was Utah. Vacations were driving to somewhere new and learning the history. Fishing was his favorite past time. Riding his Harley brought him so much joy. Some of his best memories were riding in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona with Tim on a brother's road trip.
He was most proud of his military service, serving from August 23, 1966 to August 22, 1972. He was a proud member and treasurer of VVA Chapter 922, and enjoyed spending time with his veteran brothers exchanging "war stories". He was also a member of Chapter 912 VFW in Baytown.
Ivan retired from Rohm & Haas/Dow Chemical after 40 years of service. After retiring he worked as a crane operator for Austin Industrial.
For 20 years he and his wife hosted a Thanksgiving family gathering at their home where Ivan manned the Bar-B-Que pit, cooking ribs and brisket enjoying every minute.
Through the years he performed magic tricks for everyone and to this day they still can't figure some of them out, and he loved that.
Ivan was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Tim Berman.
He is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Pinie Berman; children, Rebecca Hughes and husband Matt, Rachel Bernal and husband Fernando, Robert Bredehoeft and husband Jeremy, David McMillan, and Tavish McMillan; grandchildren, Jared Berman, Zachary Stivner, Carmen Bernal, and Mallory Bernal; great-grandchild, Carter Berman; sister, Belva Cheney and husband Mike; brother, Mark Berman, and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A private family burial will be held. Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
