

James (Jim) H Campbell, age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2018. He was born July 9, 1930 in Ensley, Alabama (now part of Birmingham) to Talmage and Fannie May Campbell. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1949 and was the first athlete to letter in all four areas of sports; football, baseball, basketball and track. Jim attended the University of Tennessee before joining the Air Force during the Korean War where he served as a crypto analyst. He married Jeanette Crews (deceased) and they had three daughters; Teri Lea Campbell Wiest, Jeri Dea Campbell Brooks, and Jamie Campbell Gilmore, who were all born in Baytown, Texas.
Jim was preceded in death by his late wife Bobbie Lou Hale Campbell, who was his high school sweetheart, his daughter Jeri Dea Campbell Brooks as well as his brother Tom Campbell, and sister, Lois Arnold.
He is survived by his daughters, Teri Wiest and her husband, Mick, Jamie Campbell Gilmore and her husband, Richard; sister Gloria Campbell Ainsworth, and brothers, Don Campbell and Bob Campbell. Jim is also survived by grandchildren, Christy Wiest Hannah, Dustin Brooks, Jessica Wiest Bennett, GiGi Brooks, Alex Brooks and Andi Carroll Kilgore, and seven great-grandchildren.
Jim was a skilled problem solver, which led him to careers involving electrical instrumentation. Those jobs included working at NASA on the Apollo 11 mission for the first moon landing, and for oil refineries in Iran and Venezuela. He traveled all over the world for both work and pleasure. Jim’s latest career involved real estate and assisting families in the purchase their own home.
Jim’s first love and priority was his family, followed closely by his love of dancing. His ‘Campbell Clan’ was precious to him and his love for his daughters was unwavering. Jim’s natural charm endeared him to friends and family, who will all miss him greatly.
Family, friends, and others, whose lives Jim touched, are invited to the Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rolling Brook Drive, Baytown, Texas, on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, for a celebration of Jim’s life. Receiving of friends will be from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The memorial service will begin at 5:00 pm. A private burial will be conducted at the Masonic Cemetery for the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
