James Allen Cannon, 92, left this earthly world on November 1, 2022, while surrounded by his family. He has claimed his victory in Jesus and been reunited with his wife Ruth Ann. Allen was born on May 7, 1930 in Baytown, Texas to Elzie and Edith Cannon. He was a 1948 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and then The University of Houston. While serving in the Air Force and after a whirlwind courtship, Allen married Ruth Ann on June 17, 1952. Baytown was their home until Mother passed away in 2007. They were members of Missouri St. Church of Christ their entire married life. Allen spent his career in the petrochemical industry. He served on the Baytown city council and as mayor for many years. He loved to travel anywhere and everywhere, but nothing was more fun to him than a family camping trip! Allen touched the lives of so many in so many ways. He never met a stranger and treated everyone the same. He was a man of conviction and integrity. Most importantly, he was a man of God.
Our dad’s greatest roles were those of Husband, Father, and “Boompa”. He was greatly loved by all of us. We’ve never known a day without his unconditional love. We will miss him dearly, but his legacy will live on in our lives forever. We rejoice that he has received his eternal reward.
Allen was preceded in death by wife Ruth Ann, parents, brother Lloyd Cannon, sisters Corinne Cannon and Joanne Wallace. He is survived by: son and daughter-in-law David and Olivette Cannon, daughters and sons-in-law Kathy and Keith Ferguson, Donna and Tony Gullo, Penny and Daryl Yaw. Grandchildren: Lauren Cannon, Carly and Cameron Campbell, Matt and Ashley Cannon; Kurt and Kimberly Ferguson, Kirby and G.W. Collier, Kolton Ferguson; Chelsey and Matt McGhee, T.J. and Virginia Gullo, Grant and Taylor Gullo; Weston and Anna Yaw, and Corrie Yaw.
