

James Roland Davis, 95, of Dayton, Texas, passed away, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 23, 1930, in Kountze, Texas, to the late William Edgar and Eliza Clarence Brown Davis. James proudly served his country in the United States Navy for nine years which included an overseas tour during the Korean War.
James pursued many interests, some of which included his love for hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed going camping with his children and late wife when they were younger. James could often be found outside, tinkering in the shop or working on a lawn mower. He took pride in his vegetable garden and would often share whatever he grew with his family and friends. James cherished the simple pleasures in life like just sitting out on the porch listening to nature. Above all, his greatest joy came from the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Edith of 65 years; his son Milton Davis; his siblings Cathy Perew, Lola Alpers, Thelma Thompson, and Wayne Davis. He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory his son Richard Davis, Sr. and wife Laurie; his grandson Richard Davis, Jr. and wife Quraishah; his granddaughter Leila Ford and husband Kyle; his great-grandchildren Abigail, Thomas, Clare, Gregory, Mary, and Joseph Ford, and Alana Davis; his sister-in-law Jean Whitfield and family; his numerous nieces and nephews; and his many cousins; along with a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at Earthman Baytown Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas 77521, on July 15, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Funeral will take place at Earthman Baytown Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas 77521, on July 16, 2026, at 10:00 am. A Graveside service will follow at Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8624 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas 77521, on July 16, 2026, at 11:30 am.
