James Walter Phinny, Jr. passed away in Micanopy, Florida on May 18, 2018 at the age of 84, after a long illness. Jim served in the US Armed Forces, first in the Navy for two years before retiring from the Air Force in 1971 after 20 years of service. He went on to work and retire from the US Postal Service in 1988. Jim was born in Corsicana, Texas on September 27, 1933 and lived throughout the state for most of his life; moving to Florida during his tenure in the military and finally retiring in Florida to live with his daughter Carla and her husband Ted during his later years. Jim loved to travel and was known to hitch-hike across the country in his youth to visit family and his fiancé during his military service and a trip to Puerto Rico with his daughter and grandson, Brandon at the age of 83 was a special memory for him. Jim loved to fish and go to the beach whenever possible and swimming was a favorite past-time. Jim is survived by his brother Ronald Phinny of Lubbock, TX and four children, daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Sam Pevoteaux; son and daughter-in-law, Walter Lee Phinny and Sybie Phinny; daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Ted Connell; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Pete Haviland; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Florence Nell Phinny, his two sisters, Joan Mills and Nancy Trussell, and his parents Juanita and Walter Phinny.
