

James Edward (Jim) Selkirk was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and long-time member at Northside Baptist Church of Highlands, TX. His late wife Marie (Bevers) Selkirk was also a faithful, long-time member and Sunday School Teacher at Northside.
Jim was retired from Exxon, a veteran of World War II, and attended the University of Texas. He served on various committees in the San Jacinto Baptist Association, Baytown, TX and was a supporter of numerous Southern Baptist and other mission causes.
Jim was an active member of the Gideons, a Christian businessmen’s organization that distributes Bibles locally and around the world.
Born December 31, AD 1919 on Gulf Hill, what is now the Pelly area of Baytown, TX, James E. Selkirk went to be with the Lord on September 11, AD 2015 in Baytown, TX. Special thanks for the care he received in recent years at Mountbatten House, Highlands, TX and St. James House, Baytown, TX.
Jim and Marie traveled widely including Israel, England, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, and much of the United States.
Jim Selkirk was ordained as a Deacon February 12, 1956 at First Baptist Church of Highlands, TX. Ministers officiating included: E. R. Burns, Fletcher Erwin, A. L. Jordan, Tommy Green, and Paul Stephens. He was a descendant of William Selkirk, one of Stephen F. Austin’s “Old Three Hundred” early settlers of Texas.
Selkirk was honored with a plaque by Northside Baptist Church on February 27, 2005 for over 40 years faithful service as a Sunday school teacher. Through the years he was a great friend to pastors, evangelists, missionaries. Most of all, Jim Selkirk wanted everyone to know Jesus Christ, the One who died for all mankind and rose again. Jim requested that above all, his funeral service glorify Jesus his Lord and Savior.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife; his parents, Ainsworth (Abe) Selkirk and Mary Stella (Majors) Selkirk; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth & D. C. Kelly, Mildred Louise & J. L. Franklin. James E. Selkirk is survived by nephews & nieces, Mary Miller, Bill & Nell Slawson, James R. Bevers, Janel Blanscett, William S. Franklin, James B. Franklin, Robert A. Franklin, Sue Ellen Vanderslice, Cindy Reagan; and numerous other relatives, church family, and friends. A host of his friends greeted him on Heaven’s shore.

A visitation and funeral Service will be held at Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Rd., Baytown, TX 77521 on September 16, 2015. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 am with the funeral service beginning at 10:00 am. The funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Bob Simpson, and Pastor David R. Brumbelow, with Music Minister Gene Littlejohn. Burial will take place at 1:00 pm at Oakdale Cemetery, Daisetta, TX.
