

Jean was born to Henry and Eve Belanger on January 19, 1937 in Houma, Louisiana. She married Jackson Davis Woody on January 21, 1955 in Waco, Texas. During the next thirteen years, she had three children and delighted in being a mom. Over the course of her life she attend several different churches including, Queens Road Baptist Church, First Assembly of God-later named Cathedral of Faith and Elim Church all in Pasadena, Texas. She always sought to improve herself and attended many different facilities of higher education, eventually achieving a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1968, while pregnant with her third child. She then taught at South Shaver Elementary for many years. While working full time and parenting, she sought a Master’s Degree. One summer, she took her youngest children and lived in a trailer in Beaumont so she could be close to University for an intensive summer course. She was supported in all her endeavors by her husband, Davis, who shared household duties and parenting and lives his life to be her biggest fan and supporter of her dreams. Jean gained a Master's Degree from the University of Houston, becoming a diagnostician in the La Porte Independent School District. She touched the lives of many children in her career as an educator.
Living her life with the whole crayon box, Jean dressed bright and bold, with jangly costume jewelry and makeup in place. Her dress and makeup was done out of respect for her visitors or anyone she might see that day - she always wanted to look her best. She gardened with great variety and splendor and sewed intricate doll clothes and dresses for her granddaughters, and daughters back in the day She and Davis took great pleasure in their travels around the world, starting out with tours then creating their own paths and adventures along the way. Casinos became their travel destination over the last many years, meeting friends and family and making memories.
She was preceded in death by her parents John Henry Belanger and Eve Singleton; siblings, Bryan Belanger and Dardnella Brock.
Jean is survived by her husband, J.D. Woody; daughters, Susan Morrow and husband, Steve, Dianna Schoenbein and husband, Michael, Eve Franklin and husband, John; half-brother, John Belanger; Five grandchildren, Robert Griffey, Philip Schoenbein, Jack Franklin, Abigail Franklin and Julia Franklin.
