

We are here to pay tribute and honor to Jerry E. Childers, 74. He passed away peacefully at home June 12, 2014, surrounded by his loving wife, Sissy, and loving family after a brief courageous fight with cancer.
Jerry was born June 5, 1940 in Wisner, LA, and retired with the City of Atlanta, GA, in 2006 as Sewer Services Superintendent of Waste Water Services. He also worked Atlanta Braves Security for many years, and loved LSU and the Saints. Jerry’s passions were hunting, spending time with family and friends, and looking at photos of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He never met a stranger and was loved by all.
He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Corrie Lafey; his parents, Norman and Velma Childers; and son, Bobby Ray Childers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Sissy Nunez Childers; son, Jerry Allen and wife Angel; daughters, Kelly and husband Eric Wall, Melissa Trahan, Teresa Childers, and Pam Childers; brothers, Norman, Melvin and wife Dee, John and wife Ann; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family is forever grateful for the visits, calls, emails, and texts from friends and family, the Faith Community Hospice and in particular, Rosana Gourlay, the RN who helped guide us and give us moral support along with the minister, Dr. Judy.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Blaise Trahan, Zachary Childers, Dustin Childers, Allen Vig, Brad Sims, and Jason Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be, Braeden Trahan, Brennan Trahan, Mark Daigle, Chris Delucia, and Andrew Walker.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 13, 2014 from 5:00 to 9:00p.m., at Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Rd., Baytown, TX 77521.
A visitation will be on Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 12:00 to 4:00p.m., with a Rosary @ 2p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home, 3001 Ryan St., Lake Charles, LA 70601. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery in Creole, LA.
