

Jess Vickery, 59, of Houston, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at his residence after a courageous, 21 month battle with cancer. He was born August 12, 1952 in Port Huron, Michigan to his late parents, Steve Vickery, Sr. and Ferne Marie Foster Vickery,
Jess spent the early part of his life in Port Huron, where he graduated from high school and received his college education. He moved to Houston in 1980 and attended the Houston Police Department's Police Academy and then joined the Harris County Sheriff's Office, who he remained with for 29 years and became a highly decorated officer.
Deputy Vickery was the epitome of ""service to the community"". In 2002, for his contributions the Gulf Coast Blood Bank, he was recognized for donating 80 plus gallons of blood throughout his life, he was recognized on billboards and in magazines for this accomplishment. He has been recognized for saving lives, in the line of duty and once performed CPR on a person who had collapsed in the court room.
In 2004 he received the Governors Law Enforcement Achievement Award and on July 6th of this year Sheriff Adrian Garcia presented him with the HCSO Lifetime Merit Award and a Proclamation for Deputy Jess Vickery Day.
This coming Monday, July 23rd, Deputy Jess Vickery will be honored with the 1st Annual Jess Vickery Blood Drive, sponsored by the Harris County Sheriff's Office and the Gulf Coast Blood Bank, 7am-3pm at the HCSO Officers Dining Hall, 701 N. San Jacinto in Houston.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Duane Dobbins, Sr. and Constance McCrum Dobbins.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Vickery of Houston; children, Tina Eldridge and her husband Scott of Seabrook and Charles Lorendo of Baytown; sister, Julie McIntyre and her husband Phil and brother, Steve Vickery, Jr. and his wife Kelly all of Port Huron; grandchildren, Blake and Scott Eldridge; sister-in-law, Marium Crotty and her husband Walt of Spring; brother-in-law Duane Dobbin, Jr. of Highlands and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
Visitation will be 5-7pm, Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Navarre Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2pm, Friday, July 20, 2012 at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Bayou Masonic Cemetery.
