In the quiet evening of April 3, 2016, Joe Wilson Blythe, 86, took his first breath in Heaven. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and youngest daughter. Joe was born on July 22, 1929, to A.G. and Etta Blanche (Epperson) Blythe in the town of Barbers Hill, now known as Mont Belvieu, Texas. He grew up, attended and graduated from Barbers Hill High School in 1947. He went on to serve in the Army during the Korean Conflict for two years. In 1955, he married Billie Joy McCurdy and adopted her three children, Connie Monk, Noble Blythe, and Michael Blythe (deceased). Their youngest daughter, Carol Jo, came along in 1959, completing the Blythe Family. Joe served on the school board at BHISD for 16 years and was instrumental in the acquisition of the land the BHISD Schools are located today. Joe grew up attending the Methodist church in Mont Belvieu where he and Billie raised their children. Joe worked twenty-eight years with Arco Chemical Company, retiring as Superintendent at the Equistar Mont Belvieu Terminal. He and Billie learned to square dance with the Bayshore Wagon Wheelers and loved to travel to different venues to dance with others who loved to do so. Traveling in their motorhome was what Joe and Billie loved to do most and would roam throughout the USA and Canada attending various rallies associated with groups such as FMCA and the Roughnecks, or just by themselves exploring. They were known to go four-wheeling in the hills and snowmobiling in the mountains. Joe and Billie celebrated 60 years of marriage in August of 2015. Joe was a loving Son, a good Friend, a wonderful Husband, a great Dad, an awesome Uncle, an outstanding Role Model, and a proud PawPaw. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, A.G.
