Mr. Hayes was a lifelong resident of the Baytown area, graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1954 and was an established member of St. John's United Methodist Church. Throughout the years, he enjoyed boxing, coaching baseball, watching sports, fishing and attending family gatherings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram and Maggie Hayes; brothers, Eugene, Cecil, Bobby, Glenn Ray, and Wesley; son-in-law, Billy Christensen and grandson, Dustin Strain. He is survived by his loving wife Viola Hayes; children and their spouses, Michael Hayes Sr. and wife Kelly; Marquetia Christensen; Mirenda Strain-Behrens and husband Scott; step-children and their spouses, Shelah Selman, Carla Selman and husband Pablo, Dennis Moses and wife Karen, and David Moses and wife Penny; grandchildren and their spouses, Melanie Christensen, Michael and Tiffany Christensen, Michael Hayes Jr., Rachael and Reggie Butler; step-grandchildren, Davie Moses, Natasha Flores, Manta McAllister, Brian Moses, Brandon Moses, D.C. Moses, Hannah Moses, David Moses, Ethan Selman, Michael Acosta, and Easton Selman; and great grandchildren, Brielle Christensen, Jake Christensen, and Ryler Butler.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home, Thursday, April 27, 2017, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
