
Col. John ""Jack"" Combs (USAF, Ret.), 95, of San Antonio, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013 in San Antonio. He was born April 28, 1918 in San Marcos, Texas to his late parents, Marvin Browning Combs and Toressa Talbot Combs.
Jack had resided in San Antonio for the last 23 years, previously lived in Baytown for 45 years and was a retired Lab Supervisor from Exxon. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Kiwanis Club and the Order of Daedalians and had served as a US Air Force pilot during World War II and Korea. He was a group commander at Ellington Air Force Base and had climbed to the rank of Colonel before being discharged from the Air Force.
Mr. Combs was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Elaine Combs Brown.
He is survived by Willie Faye, his wife of 72 years, a son, John, Jr. and wife GayLyn; a grandson, Michael Combs and wife Kristi; a granddaughter Tammy Phelps & husband, Tony; four great-grandchildren, Lauren and Madelyn Combs and Danielle and Kevin Phelps and two nieces, Carolyn Vaught and Sandra Moulton.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 19, 2013 at Memory Gardens with Mr. Jesse Flowers officiating.
