

He was born July 26, 1932, In Baytown, Texas, to his parents Stella Sloan Flynt and Harvey (Bill) Flynt, who pre-deceased him.
He attended schools in the Goose Creek School district, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1951, where he played football as a Lee Gander. He then attended Texas A & M University in College Station, Texas.
John married Ellen Cooke, the love of his life and high school sweetheart. They married on June 6, 1952 and were married for 70 years.
He served in the U.S. Army from November 1953 to September 1955, spending most of that time in Korea as a personnel specialist.
Prior to his service in the U.S. Army, he was employed by Shell Oil Company in Deer Park, Texas, and returned to that company after his discharge. While at Shell he worked in the electric shop, then finished his career in the Fire and Safety Department as a Safety Inspector. He was employed at Shell for 44 years.
After returning from Korea, he attended the University of Houston, where he received his bachelor’s degree in accounting.
He was a long-time member of the Memorial Baptist Church in Baytown where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and worked with Kid’s Beach Club. He also attended BSF, Bible Study Fellowship.
In his younger years he enjoyed deer hunting and being outdoors, but later was just happy being outdoors enjoying all of God’s creations.
He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren and spending time with them at the farm.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen, his son, John Paul Flynt and his wife, Lesa. His daughter, Mary Flynt Phelps and her husband, David of Crosby, Texas.
He is also survived by grandchildren Ross Flynt, Weston Flynt, Sydney Flynt, Mandy Phelps Schrader and her husband, Scott, Lauren Phelps Cotton and Brittney Phelps.
Great Grandchildren Haley Schrader, Cason Schrader, Aly Cotton and Ben Allyene.
Other survivors are his brother, Bill Flynt, Jr. of Baytown, Texas and his sister Eula Flynt Johnson of Decatur, Texas and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation for Mr. Flynt will be 10 a.m. Wednesday July 6, 2022 in the Chapel at Memorial Baptist Church in Baytown. The memorial service will begin at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Huntsville, Texas, at Clines Prairie Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews: Jerry Nickerson Jr., Michael Nickerson, Todd Nickerson, Allen Flynt, Gary Flynt, Wayne Johnson, and Scott Miller.
