It seems that when we least expect the tragic it always seems to happen.  Karl was one of the funniest characters I ever had the pleasure of meeting.  Sometimes for some reasons god needs the ones we love way before we would like to let them go.  There is no doubt in my mind that Karl would be pleased by all of the fond memories stirred up by his passing.  Anything I can ever do to help just email me.

I'm a coworker of Mark Power's.  I never had the pleasure of meeting Karl, but I hope you'll accept my condolences. We can never say with certainty what God has planned for us.  We just obediently follow the still, small voice and when our work is done, we get to go home.  I'm sure Karl influenced for the better a great many people, some of whom will continue to feel that influence for a long time to come.  Hold tight to your memories when the grief is difficult to bear.  I am so sorry for your loss and your family will be in my prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss.  I was blessed to meet Karl during the evacuation for Hurricane Rita.  He was so kind and gentle to all of us who were staying at your Grandmother's house.  His giving heart was the thing that I will always remember.

Karl Christopher:
What a beautiful baby boy! Perhaps the quietest of all 6 grandchildren. The funeral was truly amazing, the love and support of all that attended both the funeral and wake is a testament to Karl's friendly nature and how many lives he touched during his short time here.  Not only a testament to Karl, but to Rhett and Laura, and my precious sister, who gives so much of herself, unselfishly to all, and has always been there for me with open arms!  I love you!

We had so much fun growing up and playing together from He-Man and video games, to hide and go seek.  I am so far away from home that I cannot be with you and it hurts.  Thank you for being such a great cousin and childhood friend.  I will miss you so much!  I love you.

I have worked at Chevron for almost 32 years and have never seen a ""newbie"" come to us with the potential that Karl had. I found it comical one morning when passing by a conference room where all the new folks were writing on the white board. I accused Karl of writing on the ceiling where no one else could read his work...He enjoyed the teasing. Karl will truly be missed by us all. I am a better person for having known him.

I was the host on the Hiring Team for Chevron Phillips and on the Operations Training Team that first worked with Karl at the plant.  On our first encounter at his interview, he struck me as a perfect candidate for our operator training program.  He was obviously intelligent, had a good sense of humor, and was wise in interpersonal skills beyond his years.  He was inspiring and full of promise.  I am fortunate to be able to say that I knew Karl Dobberstein.  His loss will be felt by many for a long time.  May the Lord be the Provider of your perfect peace and keep you in the shelter of His wings.

Should a need arise, please give me the opportunity to be of service to the family of a young man that I admired.

Life is a tapestry.  We see the back with all the knots, tangles and loose threads. It doesn't seem to make sense to us, but Jesus sees it from the front.  He sees a panaramic view of beauty, with gold and silver threads among other colors.  Have faith that Karl is now one of the golden threads in a heavenly needlework.  You will join him again.  Until then, keep faith that Jesus has a plan.  It is so very hard when we must let one return to God without knowing the plan.  Just remember, we are not supposed to see the big picture yet.  I probably related this story unclearly but when my brother David died in a similar way, this comforted me and maybe it will you also (if anything can).  My love and prayers are with you. My husband and I were invited to a party one evening to lissten to an up and coming Baytown Band.  Everyone was listening, singing and having a good time.  I noticed a tall young man, who looked familiar, come into the room.  I observed as he went to every table engaging in caring conversations and giving each person he met a gentle hug.  When he arrived at my talbe my son, Sean, introduced me to Karl reminding him that Homer and Cornelia Grant were my parents.  That brought an instant smile to Karl's face.  He bent down, gave me a hug and whispered, ""I thought your parents were awesome.  They were special people and I think of Sean as my brother.  I'm so glad I got to meet you again tonight."" I thought, how unusual, a genuinely caring young man.  The joy was mine seeing Karl again as the  great young adult he had become.

I know Karl learned his concern for others, his gentle manner and his zest for life from his mother, brother, sister and his wonderful family.  Karl also knew God and because of that we will rejoice.

Karl was a brilliant young man  who will be greatly missed by his family and his many, many friends.

I don't know what to say in a time like this, I know that I will never find another person who had the ability to have such dramatic sarcasm and sincerity at the same time. I will miss Karl more than I think I realize at this moment, because it just hasn't hit yet. Every second of sorrow up to this point has also made me remember great times that make me smile, I think Karl knows how many of us he was important to, so I will try my best not to be sad, and I will always remember the fun and completely original times I was able to share with him.

To his family, I am terribly sorry for your loss, I know this hole cannot be filled, but with the love all of us have for him, we will all try and help you through it. If I can do anything to help please let me know.

I'll never forget the time Karl and Cody took the keg from  my party.  They were pretty slick. And to top it off they brought it back empty.  Karl was a great person. Always making people laugh.  He will be missed, and never forgotten.

Karl will never be forgotten. He has touched the lives of countless people, including my own. Everyone who knew him, will remember the times they spent with him forever.

I know that the loss I'm feeling pales in comparison to what you are experiencing. Karl and our son Eric use to make us laugh so hard that my sides would hurt. They use to think up the silliest challenges like who could drink the most milk or eat the most Arby's Montana Sandwiches. With both of them over 6 ft in height in high school it took a lot of both to fill those two up. I have so many wonderful memories of Karl, a couple of the most memorable that I've held close to my heart was coming home many a day and seeing Karl sitting in the recliner with a big smile on his face and a little wave like I'm here again. And the time that we were riding in the car after he lost his dad and I told him that like God being in his heart all the time his dad could now be there also, he nodded and smiled like it made sense to him and he agreed. What I loved most about Karl was the peace that he carried every where he went. Karl added so much to our family and left us with many fond memories that I can kept in my heart always.

I remember when I first met Karl when he walked onto the unit at PEU-1792 at Cedar Bayou and thought,""My God this kid is tall"". He was very polite and courteous. Regretfully I never had the full opportunity to really get to know him. But I can truly assure his family that he will be missed. I know he's in God's arms and may all our thoughts and prayers be with all of you.

I knew Karl from CPChem and he was a pleasure to work with.  Those of us that were involved in helping Karl get set up to begin working at the plant will never forget how difficult it was to get work clothes that fit him correctly . . .he was so tall!  It took several tries and a finally a call from the plant manager to  get him work clothes that fit.

Even more memorable was Karl's personality.  He was always pleasant, and he always seemed to have a positive attitude.  He was working diligently to learn his new job.  He was a great asset to our team, and he will be greatly missed by those of us that worked with him at the plant.

When Karl was hired on here at Chevrophillips we had no idea of what a daunting task it would be to get Karl into Nomex clothing. His first fitting the nomex was the right size in length but I think the width was for a 400 lb man. Plan B...Found a thinner pair but the height was for a 6 foot man, still not right. Plan C...Someone had an idea to sew on extra nomex on the legs and sleeves but forgot about the mid section. These liked to have cut him in half at the hips, but the length was fine. While all this was going on Karl was in training and we had to go in the plant for things which required nomex. Plan D...So he was given a raggedy, ugly green pair of paper nomex that would have fit an elephant. Thats the day he recieved the nickname ""Gumby"". But in the end Plan E was started, with help from the plant manager, and we special ordered him some custom tailored nomex. Thats my fondest memory...We love you man...Your friends and family at CPC

I havent Seen Karl since highschool, but it always hits hard when you think you would see someone again one day and something like this falls in your lap. He will be remembered forever by all of us who knew him.

I hired in with Karl at ChevronPhillips.  We never really said much to each other until the day that I found out that he was a member of the 7th Street Church Of Christ.  I am a member of the Cove Church of Christ, and we hit it off from there on.  Karl and I happened to get put in the same unit. One thing that was funny with Karl at work was that when I would relieve him or he relieve me at the end of shift, we always seemed to get caught up talking for toooo long about nothing. Most of the time it had nothing to do with the job. This would almost indefenetely make us late leaving. but wouldn't take it back for nothing. Never forget you man. As one of Karl’s trainers at CPChem, I saw many opportunities for his career and life ahead.  His timing was impeccable…not one minute to spare.  I asked him one day why he would show up EXACTLY when he was supposed to for work.  He said…I’m using my time to the fullest.  One could only hope that his time was spent with you.  He will be missed.
