KaSandra Kay Messick, a beloved mother, daughter, wife, and grandmother, unexpectedly passed away at her Baytown, TX home on the evening of July 4, 2012 at the age of 61. She had been battling health problems for several months and peacefully departed this world for the next with her daughter at her side. Services will be held at Navarre Funeral Home on Saturday, July 7.
KaSandra Patterson (her maiden name) was born in Victoria, Texas on September 29, 1950 and, after moving around the country with her family during her youth, settled down in Baytown after her graduation from Ross S. Sterling High School. She would make it her home for the remainder of her years, meeting and marrying the love of her life Michael Wayne Messick. Baytown was where they raised their children and made countless wonderful friends; many befriended KaSandra during her younger years as a hairdresser and beautician, but she would add to the list endlessly when she took a job with the Goose Creek school district. At Robert E. Lee High School she worked as a class secretary for many years, sharing love and friendship with colleagues and students alike.
KaSandra was preceded in death by her husband Michael Wayne Messick and her father Lee Roy Patterson. She is survived by her mother Lorraine Patterson of Baytown; her son Mike Ethan Messick, his wife Sarah Codey Messick, and their son Luke Wayne Messick of Buda, TX; her daughter Amanda Lee Messick and Bryan Brennan of Baytown and his son Nicholas; her sister-in-law Vicki Jones and mother-in-law Betty Messick of Livingston, TX; longtime family friends Brian and Leigh Maxwell and their son Liam Wayne Maxwell; a beloved extended family, and a long line of dear friends who thought of her as an honorary sister or a second mother.
Honorary pallbearers will be KaSandra's nephew Kevin Walker and longtime friends Gary Gardner, Aaron Barefield, Ed Haberman, Greg Henderson, Johnny Henderson, Raymond Henderson, James Sparks, Rusty Sparks, Gary Sparks, Robert DeWitt, Jerry Johnson, Larry Holloway, Lonnie DeCamp, Harrel Lynn Powers, and Ed Hildebrand III.
KaSandra had a long-standing love of the Texas Gulf Coast and spent many of her happiest days at the Matagorda beach house she co-owned with family and friends. She also loved gardening, swimming, reading and enjoying any excuse to visit the people she loved. Many of the most exciting times of her life were spent planning, hosting, and celebrating countless weddings, memorials, baby and wedding showers, graduation and engagement and birthday parties, and other occasions of joy and human connection. Her kindness and generosity reflected her love of Jesus Christ and dedication to the happiness of others, which in the end is what made her most happy.
A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, July 7, 2012 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m.
