Katherine Pryor

Katherine Pryor, of Bryan, passed away on August 5, 2014 in a Bryan hospice facility at the age of 85. Katherine was born on October 23, 1928 in Neches, TX to the late Rubie and Hattie Green. Before moving to Bryan, Katherine lived in Baytown for 58 years. Twenty-seven of these years were spent with her husband, Sam Pryor, Jr. until his passing. She graduated from East Texas Baptist College and received her master's degree from Prairie View A&M. Katherine taught at Highlands Elementary for 27 years until her retirement in 1987 and was a member of the Baytown Retired Teachers Association. As a Christian, she was an active member of Wooster Baptist Church teaching a variety of classes and working in the church library. She spent many hours as a volunteer at Gulf Coast Hospital. She was also a past member of Baytown Aggie Moms. Katherine enjoyed learning as much as she enjoyed teaching. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working puzzles, playing dominos and bingo, and collecting rocks.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Charles Randall Pryor; grandson, Samuel Charles Pryor; sister, Lucilla Bishop; three brother-in-laws and 4 sister-in-laws. She leaves behind son, Rick Pryor and wife, Jane; daughter, Jan Novosad and husband, Mike; grandchildren, James Pryor, Aaron Novosad and wife Jennifer; Melissa Flye and husband, Joshua; great grandchildren, Addison and Landry Novosad; brothers and their spouses, Don and Nancy Green, John and Betty Green, Travis and Peggy Green, and Ronnie Green; sister, Elizabeth Bailey; brother-in-law, Benny Bishop and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 9, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown. A service will follow with Rev. David Pryor and Rev. John Green officiating. Burial will take place in Hill of Rest Cemetery in Baytown.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
