Kathrine Virginia Mayfield Burns

Kathrine was the third of nine children born to Homer and Edna Hayes. She was born in Jackson, Tennessee on December 28, 1928.

Mrs. Burns was a member of Harvest Temple Pentecostal Church and enjoyed homemaking, gardening, and floral arranging in her spare time.

She was affectionately known as “Baby Sister”, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be missed by everyone that knew her.

Kathrine was preceded in death by her husband James C. Mayfield, her parents; grandson, Russell Lane Read; daughter-in-law Mary Lee Mayfield; sisters, Dorothy Webb, Emma Jean Satterwhite, Edna Ruth Ainsworth, and Nancy Burns.

Survivors include her loving husband, Charles Burns, who has provided compassionate care during her illness; son Jerrel Mayfield and wife Lorraine; daughter, Deborah Read and husband Chester; step sons, Wayne Burns and James Burns and wife Tonya; sisters, Margaret “Squeaky” Guillory, Joyce “Tiny” Placker and husband LeRoy, Christine Sharp, and brother J.B. Hayes and wife Joyce. She was known as “Grandma” to her grandchildren and spouses: Wendy and Paul Phillips, Jerrell, Jr. and Kari Mayfield, Kimberly and Michael Berthelot, Jeffrey and Shauna Read, Tanya King, and Madison and Makena Burns. “Great Grandma” to 12 great grandchildren, Corey, Joshua, and Jon Paul Phillips, McKenzie, Madison, and Meagan Mayfield, Alyssa and Logan Berthelot, Zachary and Cole Read, and Jacob and Briane King, and a host of special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Harvest Temple with Reverend William Atchison officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Honoring Kathrine, pallbearers are Kent Satterwhite, Charles Webb, Mike Webb, Paul Carroll, James Burns, and James Crawford. Honorary pallbearers are Jerrell Mayfield, Jr., Paul Phillips, Mike Berthelot, and Wayne Burns.
