

Kay was born in Tylertown, MS, the only child of Lloyd Franklin Davis and Lucille Conerly Davis, with a large extended family that included many close, beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. She received her BS and MA in Education from Louisiana State University, married and began a family in Louisiana, before settling in Texas. She taught math at Ross Sterling High School, Chinquapin Preparatory School, Lee College, and San Jacinto Junior College.
She was a life-long active member of the Methodist church and was a member of St. Mark’s Church in Baytown for over 20 years where she was involved in many programs and activities including the church choir which she enjoyed.
She was an avid birdwatcher and nature lover. She loved all kinds of music and shared theatre, ballet, and opera experiences with her children as they grew up.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband of 33 years, Perry LeCates, Jr., and her grandson Thomas Capetillo. She is survived by her second husband of 27 years, Jack Burnell, her children, Karen LeCates Capetillo and husband Tom, Robert LeCates, David LeCates and wife Lisa, and Jeff LeCates and wife Cherie.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Caprile Capetillo Aguero and husband Chris, Justin Capetillo, James LeCates, Matthew LeCates and wife Stephanie, and Christopher LeCates, and her sisters in law, Jane LeCates and Mabel Wickboldt. Other survivors also include her step children Dan Burnell, John Burnell, and Rose Fleming and husband Kevin, and granddaughters Rachel Wilemon and husband Reed, and Madison Fleming, and great grandchildren Damien Hilburn, and Daniel and Charlotte Wilemon.
The family would also like to express our heartfelt appreciation for the loving care provided to Kay over the last year by Erica Garcia, Cecilia Simon, Teresa Patton, Anne Francois, Hazel Prosper, and Valerie Joachim.
A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 2:30 pm at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 3811 North Main, Baytown, TX 77521, with a time for visitation to follow.
