Lavon Hale Moore
June 11, 1938 – March 2, 2018
Lavon Hale Moore, 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday, March 2, 2018, at her home with her husband of 62 years by her side. Lavon was born in Mt. Vernon, TX on June 11, 1938. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School, class of '56, and remained very active in their class reunions for years. She loved people and had a special gift for helping everyone. This gift led her to be successful in many career advances; Lavon worked for the Baytown Sun from 1957-1962 before she took time off to stay home and raise her children as a homemaker at which time she also sold Avon for many years. Lavon began working outside of the home again in customer service as the office manager at Palais Royal at San Jacinto Mall when it first opened in 1981, from there she pursued a career in retail and ultimately became the assistant store manager for Palais Royal. She later worked for Foley’s and Macy’s also in the mall. Although she was successful in her career advances, her true love was spending time with her family and grandchildren. Lavon is preceded in death by her parents; Guy Booker and Leona Hale; brother, Clyde; and sisters; Margie and Martha Jo. Lavon is survived by her husband of 62 years, Kenneth Moore, son Russell Moore and his wife Deanne, daughter Melanie Moore Laughlin, grandchildren, Reagan Dru Goza and husband Calvin, Kelsey Lynn Laughlin, Madison Shea Malaschak and husband Scott, Lindsey Kate Laughlin and fiancé Matt Lopez, Tyler Reese Laughlin; great-grandchildren, Jayden Cole Lopez, Marshall Cole Goza, Drake Anthony Lopez, Bryce Andrew Laughlin, and Mabry Dru Goza. Services have been entrusted to Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, TX 77521. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018 from 2-4pm at Earthman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 5, 2018 at the Historic Alexander Chapel at Cedar Bayou Grace UMC, 2714 Ferry Road, Baytown, TX beginning at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to Cedar Bayou Grace UMC to benefit the Curt's Kitchen ministry.

Lavon and I became friends back in the late 1950s at The Baytown Sun. While we didn't get to visit much while actually at work, we always looked forward to our coffee breaks at Scarborough's Drug Store on downtown Texas Avenue. That's where we talked a lot -- and laughed a lot, too. Lavon was so much fun, had a great sense of humor. And she was super smart, a quick study who moved from the composing room Lineotype machines to writing/editing stories in the newsroom with the greatest of ease.
My condolences to Kenneth and family at this difficult time. God be with you.
