Leon “Granny” Agnes Childress, 85, of Baytown, Texas, slipped into the arms of Jesus, on Friday, November 14, 2025, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Franklin, Louisiana, on February 20, 1940, to the late Wilfred “Pancho” Louvier and Elder Thibodeaux Louvier. Granny was united in marriage to Dewey Childress, and they spent 20 years together building a beautiful life together, raising their children until his passing in 1985.
Granny was dedicated to her faith and was a member of Wooster Baptist Church, in Baytown. She enjoyed attending the women’s retreats, and volunteering with the church’s food pantry. Granny also loved working in the church’s nursery where she got to care for the babies while their parents attended Sunday services. She loved babies in general, so the nursery was the perfect place for her.
Granny pursued many interests, some of which included doing puzzles, and dancing. She also loved the Astros, having fond memories of going to the games with her friends from church. Granny was also an amazing cook. She would have a meal ready for any occasion, inviting anyone who wanted to come and share her love of food, with her favorite being crawfish. Granny was a social butterfly who never met a stranger. She was a true go getter who was always looking for ways to help others. Her infectious laugh would light up a room with just her presence. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Dewey; her brother Joe Louvier; her sister Lois Brant; her aunt and uncle who raised her as their own Marjorie and Henry Belanger; and her son-in-law Eddie Hicks. She leaves behind to cherish her loving memory, her sons Richard Childress and wife Janell, and David Childress and wife Carrie; her daughter Paula Hicks; her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister Carol Abbott and husband Chester; her brother John Belanger; her numerous nieces and nephews; along with a host of other loving relatives and friends.
