Lester B. Curley

Lester B. Curley, 81, of Crosby, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 with those who loved and adored him by his side. Lester survived prostate cancer but was not able to fight the soft tissue sarcoma that came back with a vengeance. Lester never lost his sense of humor and love for life. He was born on January 10, 1934, in Navasota, Texas to Cynthia Durst and John Stoneham of Stoneham, Texas.

Lester faced a great deal of adversity in his life which he successfully overcame. He graduated from Robert E Lee High School in 1953 and went on to Barber College. Wanting a better life, he joined the Air Force in 1954 through 1958 and lived on the Fort Ethan Allen Base in West Vermont; he then continued with the Air Force Reserves for 8 years.

After serving in the Air Force as a Military Police, Lester came back to Baytown and got a job at People’s State Bank in Old Baytown as a janitor. He shined shoes on the weekends to make a dollar, worked at Ashland Chemical and volunteered as a laborer, and then went on to Shell in Deer Park where he worked as a supervisor and back up foreman for 25 years, where he retired. For 2 years, Lester took in troubled foster kids that could not be placed in homes. He was also a member of the Jim Beam Club.

Lester was a kind and gentle man that was always ready to help someone. He took pride in everything he did from his appearance to his yard and truck! He was the Patriarch of his neighborhood, always ready to lend a hand.

Lester is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Daniel and sister, Birdie Jean Curley.

He is survived by his family of choice, The Boudoin’s; Mary, Amanda, Brad, Renee, and Emily; son, Scott; his grandchildren, Kaila, Micah, and Kristin; his nieces and nephews, Debra, Bridgett, Carl, Marrakech, Olivia, Cynthia, Lance, Kayla, and Lance Jr.

He will be greatly missed by all the lives that he touched so dearly!

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m., at Earthman Funeral Home.
