Margie Hartrick, 89 years old, passed away on December 12, 2012. Margie was born in Houston, Texas on January 26, 1923.
Margie was a longtime Baytown resident – teaching school for 36 years at Baytown Junior and Sterling High schools – and tireless advocate and volunteer in the Baytown community. She founded the Widows Network, Lee College Young Mothers Scholarship Program, and co-founded a scholarship for local students to attend her Alma Mater, Rice University. She has served as a compassionate tutor, teaching countless students how to read and learn English, dedicated citizen, producing and distributing the League of Women Voters' guides prior to every major election, and a remarkable role model to her children and grandchildren.
Awarded the prestigious ExxonMobil ""Refiner of the Year"" award in December 2004 presented to a long-time resident whose volunteer activities have made exemplary and lasting contributions for the good of the community, Margie humbly accepted her hard hat and her place in the hearts and minds of Baytonians. Margie will always be remembered as a tireless volunteer and teacher who has quietly touched the lives of all she met, reminding everyone that to her, she was ""just playing"" and ""having a good time.""
She is survived by her son, Glenn Thomas Hartrick; daughters, Janice Kay Hartrick and Carol Hartrick Wilson; grandsons, Glenn William Hartrick and Christopher Hartrick; granddaughters, Alexandra Elizabeth Hanson, Madeline Hartrick and Sarah Hartrick; and great-grandson Hudson Hartrick. She is preceded in death by her son, Steve Hartrick.
