

Marian Roberts Whatley, 88, of Baytown, TX passed away Monday, March 28, 2011, in a local hospital. She was born July 31, 1922, in Baytown in a Humble Oil and Refining Co. house to Bob and Jane Roberts. She attended Baytown Elementary, Baytown Junior High, and Robert E. Lee High School, where she was a member and officer in the Maroon Brigadiers. After graduating from Lee in 1939, she was accepted into the University of Texas at Austin and received her degree in Bacteriology in 1943. Marian loved her Longhorns and was a member of the Texas Exes, a contributor to both the Longhorn Foundation and The College of Natural Sciences, and a longtime UT football season ticket holder. Avid football fans, Marian and her husband, D. F. were also 63 year Lee Gander season ticket holders.
Marian was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she was a member and past president of the St. Cecelia's Guild and was a 60 year member of the Altar Guild where she served as directress for an extended period of time. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader. Upon graduation from UT, she went to work for the MBA. Later in life, she worked for the Pediatric Associates..
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Jane Roberts; sisters, Jennie Bowles and Winnie Boydell; and grandson, John Thomas Anderson. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Daniel F. Whatley of Baytown; sons, Danny Whatley and wife Kathy and Tom Whatley, all of Austin; daughter, Jeanie Anderson and husband, John of Baytown; granddaughters, Leah Anderson of Baytown and Emily Jennings and husband, Brian of Spring; grandson, Jim Anderson of Austin; great grandchildren, Audrey Elizabeth and Graham Thomas of Spring; niece, Carole Rexer; and nephew, Stewart Bowles.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, April 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 5010 N. Main St., Baytown, TX 77521 with Father Nick Novak officiating. Burial will follow at White Cemetery in Highlands.
