Known for her red hair, her tenacity, and her wonderful baking skills, Marion was a bundle of energy. She was born May 25, 1925 in War, West Virginia to Haines Thorton and Blanche Brewster Gillespie. In addition to her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and aunt, she was very proud of her career as a school attendance secretary in the Penn Hills school district near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. When her husband Charles passed away in 2003 after 54 years of marriage, she gamely relocated and made Baytown her home, volunteering at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital and becoming an active member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers-in-law Worth William Boisture and Dr. Eugene Snowden, and sisters-in-laws Mildred Copenhaver Boisture, and Francis Eason Boisture. She is survived by her sister Ruth Snowden of Winchester, Kentucky, her three sons and their wives, Charles and Patsy Boisture, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Richard and Sarah Boisture of Independence, Kansas, and Thomas and Gayle Boisture of Baytown. She also leaves seven grandchildren and their spouses, Lindsey Berg, Morgan Shields, Garrett Boisture, Kyrie Jacobson, Katelyn Giachino, Dale Boisture, and David Boisture, and eleven great-grandchildren. Her brother-in-law Richard Boisture and wife Maggie of Jennings, Louisiana and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Many of her family members have been kept warm with the beautiful blankets she knitted for them over the years.
Marion’s family would like to thank her caregivers at the Waterford of Baytown and most recently at Swan Manor and the caregivers of Faith Family Hospice who so tenderly nurtured her during this last year.
A memorial service will be held for Marion on Saturday June 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 3811 N. Main St., Baytown, Texas 77521 under the direction of Reverend Peter Miller. Her remains will be placed beside her husband’s in the columbarium in the chapel at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. Arrangements were handled through Navarre Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the “Road to Serve More” fund at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in her memory, or to a charity of your choice.
