Marion Maxine Morgan

Marion Maxine Morgan went home to be with the Lord on September 14, 2026, at the age of 94. First and foremost, Maxine loved Jesus, and she walked in close step with Him. She was born on September 7, 1932, in Texarkana, Texas. Maxine enjoyed her childhood and was proud of her heritage. Her dad worked for the Cotton Belt Railroad, and she was born and grew up in the house on their family farm. She often shared stories of how her parents and siblings worked together growing their own fruits, vegetables, and livestock and bartered with neighbors to make ends meet. She said they never thought about what they didn’t have but instead focused on God’s provision of all their needs and the good times they had together. At the age of five Maxine contracted polio and heard the doctor telling her parents she was gone. At that time, she couldn’t speak or open her eyes but recalled thinking, “Where have I gone?” God had other plans, however, so she recovered, found her voice, and shared stories about her past, her family and friends, and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ until she was called to heaven. Maxine was saved at the age of seven and baptized when she was fourteen. Her favorite Scripture learned as a child was Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This verse encouraged her throughout her life.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, James William Bruce and Myrtle Reed Bruce, and siblings G.V. Bruce, Betty Wilson, Helen Bell, and Gene Bruce. She is survived by one sister, Ann Edwards. James Cecil Morgan, Maxine’s beloved husband, went to heaven eleven years before she joined him there. On earth their legacy lives on in their sons and daughters-in-law, David and Denise Morgan, Paul and Tonja Morgan, and Bruce and Shari Morgan. Additionally, the couple had ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

On August 29, 1954, Maxine married Cecil, whom she met while they were attending college at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas. The couple’s favorite verse was Ecclesiastes 12:13: “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter; Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of mankind.”

Maxine and Cecil founded First Baptist Church in Brigham City, Utah, which grew from eleven to one hundred plus members in one year. After moving to Baytown, Maxine served as a substitute teacher in the Goose Creek School District for over twenty-five years. Wherever the Lord called Maxine and Cecil to serve, their life mission was to reach and teach others for Christ. Maxine was a witness wherever she went. She loved the 3rd chapter of the Gospel of John where Jesus spoke with Nicodemus, and she wanted more than anything to see others be born again. She said that everything in life boils down to Jesus.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Maxine and her walk with the Lord will be held on November 7th, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church, 600 West Sterling Avenue, Baytown, Texas 77520. Donations in Maxine’s honor may be made to either Autism Speaks or the American Cancer Association.
