Mary Ann Savell

Mary Ann Savell was born September 22, 1929, in Goose Creek, Texas (now known as Baytown), and departed this life on August 9, 2026, at the age of 96. A cherished matriarch, steadfast friend, and beloved community member, Mary Ann’s long life stood as a testament to a life well-lived of devotion, love, and care for others.

Born to Bert and Mable Black, Mary Ann was raised with strong values that would shape her and guide her throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James C. Savell, Sr.; her beloved parents, Mable and Bert Black; her two sons, James C. Savell, Jr. and Danny W. Savell; her daughter, Melissa A. Davidson; and her grandson, James C. Savell, III "Clint". As well as numerous cousins, dear friends, and family members.

Mary Ann’s legacy is one of enduring love and resilience, reflected in the lives of those who survive her, including her daughter, Mindy Messick; her grandsons R.J. Davidson and wife Breanna, Charlie Davidson and wife Stacy, James Davidson and wife Sylwia, and their father Chad Davidson, and Jason Tallant; granddaughters Tiphaine Savell Justice and husband Eric and her mother Brenda Savell Cridland, Renee Mullen and husband Larry and her mother Debbie Tallant Savell; and all of their children and grandchildren.

Mary Ann shared a beautiful life with James C. Savell, whom she married on August 6, 1948. Their union, which lasted until James’s passing in October 1983, was rooted in mutual support and devotion, and together they shared a life filled with both professional partnership and personal adventure.

A proud graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, Mary Ann continued her education at Baylor and TCU before dedicating herself to her family. Yet her curiosity and determination to keep learning never faded; she later re-enrolled at Lee College in Baytown, pursuing interests that ranged from sewing and upholstering to computers.

Mary Ann’s career was deeply intertwined with her family’s legacy. Working alongside her parents at Black’s Pharmacy, she later helped her husband establish Black’s Pharmacy #2. Whether delivering prescriptions, wrapping gifts with care, or keeping the books with steady precision, she did what was needed always ensuring the business ran smoothly.

Her life extended well beyond work and home. Mary Ann was actively involved in her church and was a member of United Methodist Women’s Club. She was also actively involved with the local hospital, extending her kindness and generosity to all. Her social circles were vast, including bridge groups, travel groups, and the cherished “Fun Bunch,”- a testament to lifelong friendships.

Mary Ann was a woman of many talents. She played golf, hunted with her husband, used her skillful hands to sew clothing, reupholster furniture for her children, and mastered knitting and crocheting always creating and giving. She was known for her intelligence and forthright manner, yet it was her compassion and generosity that left the deepest imprint. Mary Ann was always ready to assist those in need, whether driving seniors to appointments, or caring with unwavering devotion for her husband and her mother.

Mary Ann Savell’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, kindness, and generosity. Her legacy will continue in the family she cherished, the friends she held close, and the community she served. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.

The family extends sincere heartfelt gratitude to all friends and family who contributed to Mary Ann’s remarkable life, with special thanks to RJ and Bre, Eli, Alicia, and Angie for the comfort and care shown in her later years.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m., Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Cedar Bayou Grace Methodist Church, 3700 N. Hwy 146, Baytown, Texas, with the funeral service to follow and begin at 11 a.m. A private family burial will be held.
