Mary Elizabeth Cushman

Mary Elizabeth Cushman of Baytown, TX went to her rest on January 1, 2006. Mary was a loving Mother and Grandmother as well as a servant to others and a caring and loving sister and sister-in-law. She was known for her gentle spirit, loyalty and professionalism, and devoted friendship.

Mary came to Baytown in 1969 and worked at the old San Jacinto Methodist Hospital on Decker Drive as the Emergency Room Head Nurse. In 1976 Mary became one of the first school nurses in the Goose Creek Independent School District. Mary worked as a school

Registered Nurse until her retirement.

Mrs. Cushman was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of the Court Mater Die Catholic Daughters where she served as Regent and held various state and District offices.

Mary served on the Harris County Hospital District Board of Directors and enjoyed her retirement with her husband George, at the Baytown Seniors Center and with the Baytown AARP chapter. Mary enjoyed working with the Harris County Precinct 2 outings for senior citizens.

Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be Thursday, January 5, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. William Oliver officiating. Burial will follow at White Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dean Moseley, Greg Hafer, Jerry Taylor, Arthur Radtke, Sean DuBose, and Peter Cushman

Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband George, daughter, Sarah Jane, son, George Joseph, son-in-law, Major William Timothy DuBose, US Army, and grandson, Christopher Timothy DuBose.

Mary is survived by, daughter, Judith Ann Cushman DuBose of Brownsville; son and daughter-in-law, Peter Albert and Leslie Cushman of Baytown; sisters, Margaret B. Richards of Crown Point, IN and Ruth A. Bender of Evansville, WI; brothers, Frank J. Bender Sr. and John R. Bender Sr., bothe of Janesville, WI; grandchildren, James George Polarek and wife Phyllis, Robert Fredrick Polarek and wife Cheryl, Sean Michael DuBose, Savannah Xiao-Wei Annette Cushman, Madeleine Hua-De Elizabeth Cushman
