Melba Atkins

Melba Atkins, 92 went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 30, 2009. Born on June 23, 1917 in Baton Rouge, LA to the late James Davis and Leona Campbell Davis. She was an active member of Trinity Tabernacle Assembly of God where she enjoyed singing in the choir and being around her church family. Cooking, gardening, going to church and spending time with her family were the things that she cherished the most.

She is preceded in Death by her husband, Joseph Atkins; sons, Bobby Joe Atkins, Jerry David Atkins, and Dalton Henry Atkins; daughter, Brenda Atkins Harvard; sister, Agnes Young; and brother, Bud Davis.

She is survived by her two daughters, Carol Ann Jones and Leona Joy Norton; sisters, Joy Belle Davis and Katherine Davis Oliver; 12 grand children, and 20 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 2, 2009 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Navarre Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Trinity Tabernacle Assembly of God Church, 1008 E Lobit St Baytown, TX 77520 with Rev. Larry Hayes officiating. Graveside services to follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eric Epperson, David Hartley, Sabin Norton, Sand Norton, Brian Atkins, and Daniel Atkins.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cedar Bayou Rehabilitation and Healthcare for their outstanding care and kindness given to Melba during her time there.
