Melba L. Pittman

Melba L. Pittman, 92, of Baytown was born September 24, 1923, in Livingston and passed away Thursday, July 7, 2016, in a local healthcare facility. She was a 1942 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and attended Lee College. She retired from the federal government with 20 years of service and then retired from Memorial Baptist Church with 20 years of service, where she was a very active member, and then still worked part time and volunteered at the church. She was also a volunteer at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, J. W. Pittman, Jr.; daughter, Sherry Mitchell; son-in-law, Billy Mitchell; grandson-in-law, Bobby Massengale; and sister, Dorothy Dobbs. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Cathy Pittman of Rosenberg and Reg Pittman of Manhattan, KS; grandchildren and their spouses, Karl and Donna Mitchell of Beach City, Steffani Massengale of Baytown, Staci and Brent Thompson of Katy, Rhonda and Marion Ball of Highlands, and Sherri and Jason Horrocks of Richmond; great grandchildren, Daniel and Karli Mitchell, McKade Massengale, Taylor and Rylee Thompson, Mason and Chase Ball, and Gavin, McKinzee, and Aiden Horrocks; great great granddaughter, Scarlett Mitchell; and daughter-in-law, Sue Mitchell of Baytown.

Her family will receive friends in the chapel of Memorial Baptist Church, 600 W. Sterling St., Baytown, TX 77520, Saturday, July 9, 2016, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Randy Piatt officiating. Burial will follow at White Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Karl Mitchell, Brent Thompson, Marion Ball, Jimmy Burns, Rocky Burns, and Johnny Barrow.

Her family would like to say a special ""thank you"" to the staff of Faith Community Hospice for all that they did for Melba.
