With gratitude to God for a life well lived, we celebrate the life and legacy of Merle "Lady Rose" Sheppard, who entered eternal rest on May 28, 2026, at the age of 80.
Born in Princes Town, Trinidad, Merle was a woman of deep faith, remarkable resilience, and unwavering determination. Affectionately known as "Lady Rose," she was remembered for her beautiful red hair, her love of flowers and plants, and the grace and strength that made her unforgettable to all who knew her.
A nurse, chaplain, and devoted servant of God, Merle dedicated her life to caring for others. Whether through her professional work, volunteer ministry, or daily acts of kindness, she offered comfort, encouragement, prayer, and hope to countless individuals and families. Her life reflected a servant's heart and an unwavering trust in God.
Despite facing significant health challenges, including diabetes and double amputation, Merle remained steadfast in her faith and became a powerful example of perseverance, courage, and grace. She never allowed her circumstances to define her, choosing instead to inspire others through her strength and determination.
Faith was the foundation of Merle's life. She loved her church family, cherished time in prayer and worship, and found joy in volunteering, traveling, nurturing her beloved flowers and plants, and creating lasting memories with family and friends.
Above all, Merle cherished her family. She leaves behind her daughters, Avril Alexis, Maurisa Alexis-Louis (Ricky Louis), and Gladys Machuka (Rodgers); her son, Marlon Alexis (Monique); her grandchildren, McNeil Greenidge (Theirynn), Me'Lisa Joseph (Jarrell), Rikel Louis, Rikai Louis, Mar-Lynn Alexis, Rodgers, Justice, and Nehema; and her treasured great-grandchildren, RJ, Rhiley, Journei, Joahnei, and Janai. She also leaves behind extended family members, dear friends, her church family, and countless others whose lives were enriched by her love, wisdom, and prayers.
In her final hours, Merle was surrounded by family, friends, church members, and spiritual leaders who loved her deeply. As prayers filled the room, she peacefully entered the presence of the Lord she had faithfully served for so many years.
Merle's legacy is one of faith, endurance, service, compassion, and love. Though our hearts grieve her absence, we rejoice in God's promise of eternal life and take comfort in knowing she has finished her race, kept the faith, and entered into the joy of her Lord.
