

Morris James ""M. J."" Gill, 79, of Baytown was born October 10, 1932 in Quitman, TX and passed away March 15, 2012 in a Houston hospital. He was U. S. Army veteran and a city of Baytown police officer, retiring with 32 years of service with the rank of Sergeant. He was a very active member and former vice president of the Baytown Youth Fair. He enjoyed tending to his cows, playing with his tractors, hunting, and hanging around the gun shops. He especially enjoyed trips to Gruene Hall in New Braunfels with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram Gill and Florence Gill; son and daughter, Jimmy and Marsha Gill; sister, Juanita Aguilez; and brother, Thomas Gill. He is survived by his wife of 50 ½ years, Joanne Wilburn Gill of Baytown; daughters and sons-in-law, Stacy and Scott Wilks of Mont Belvieu and Kelly Diane Gill of Highlands; grandchildren, Mason and Madison Wilks, Alexis Gore, and Dalton Gill; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Earl and Karen Wilburn of Pasadena; nieces and nephews, Diane Brown and Tommy Gill, both of Dallas and Laura and Zack Wilburn of Pasadena.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, March 19, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Neal officiating. Burial with police honors will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Todd Wright, Jarred Thomas, Skip Rome, Doug Going, Todd Phillips, Gary Harvey, Chad Davison, and Jacob Beckham. Honorary pallbearers will be all active and retired police officers.
In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to the Baytown Youth Fair Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 621, Baytown, TX 77522.
