

Murus Dibrell "”Rusty”" Pumphrey IV, 59, departed this earthly realm on Thursday, November 25, 2021. He was born in Panama City, FL to Murus Dibrell ""Dib or MD"" Pumphrey III, who preceded him in death, and wife Ella Adele. Rusty grew up in Baytown, Texas graduating from Ross S. Sterling High School in 1980. He continued his education at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas where he was a proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Rusty’s professional career spanned over 25 years in the petrochemical industry with Bayer/Covestro. Through the 1990s and into the 2000s Rusty was a member of the Cove, TX Volunteer Fire Department and EMS where he served as EMS Chief for a time. In 2016, Rusty furthered his service to others by joining the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, District 8 Division 6, Flotilla 12 where he excelled in numerous positions including; Auxiliary Historian, Publication Officer, Public Information Officer, Assistant District Staff Officer-Emergency Management, Vice Flotilla Commander, and had been recently elected Flotilla Commander, a position he was to assume in January of 2022.
Rusty’s interests included trains, sailboats, the beach, and photography. His thirst for historical knowledge of any subject was only rivaled by his drive to commemorate life through his photography. Rusty was a dedicated family man, a fierce and loyal friend, and passionate in his service to others.
In addition to his proud mother, Adele, Rusty is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Denise Pumphrey; loving daughters, Katherine (Adam) Ivy and Sarah Pumphrey; cherished grandchildren Bryson Pumphrey and Lillie Ivy; dear brother Emmett (Kristen) Pumphrey; beloved sister Mary (Steven) Gopon; mother-in-law Nancy Andrews; brother-in-law Jim (Kathleen) Andrews; nieces Heather (Rob) Orchard, Brooke Hallman, Haley Hallman and Loren Pumphrey; nephews Gene Gopon, Hunter Pumphrey and Thomas Andrews; as well as numerous extended family and friends.
Rusty’s father, Dib (or MD), and many other cherished, dearly departed relatives await to welcome him to his eternal life.
His family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 3, 2021 at Navarre Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., at the funeral home with Pastor Luis E. Ramirez officiating. Burial with honors will follow at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton, TX at 2:30 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Andrews, Tracy Andrus, Kenneth Dies, Andre’ Fischesser, Steven Gopon, and Adam Ivy, and Emmett Pumphrey.
