Opal Mae was born to Opal Wilton Harbor and Rosa Mae Derryberry, Sept. 14, 1940, in Ingalls, Arkansas. She married JB McRae on Dec. 23, 1975, and they lived together in Dayton and Livingston, Texas.
She is survived by her son Robert and wife Tina Greene, her brother Bubba Harbor and wife Sherri, JB's son Jimmy Wayne and wife Dotty McRae, daughter Janis and husband Jessie Owen, son Tootie McRae and wife Pam, daughter Tamayra and husband Todd Lapani. She also leaves the legacy of her 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, JB McRae, her mother Rosa Mae Derryberry, her father Opal Wilton Harbor, her son Donald Lee Harkness Jr, her sister Wanda Sue Fabian, and her granddaughter, Amanda Harkness.
Opal worked as a caregiver for many years after graduating from Nursing School in Baytown, Texas. She enjoyed shopping, crafting, taking care of animals, traveling with JB, and spending lots of time with her favorite dog, Little Bit. She was also actively involved in her church and The Red Hat Club.
A celebration of life is scheduled for July 9, 2026. Visitation will be at 10:00 and service starting at11:00 at Earthman Funeral Home at 3919 Garth Rd. Baytown Texas. Graveside Service will follow at Earthman's Memory Gardens Cemetery at 8624 Garth Rd.
Pastor Jason Beasley, her grandson, will be officiating the ceremony. Pallbearers are her grandsons, Jason Beasley, Shane Greene, John McCullough, Donald Lee Harkness III. Dustin Harkness, and Thomas Downey.
The family would like to thank Country Place staff and all of her nurses for their dedication and love for Opal, and to Margaret Brooks for taking time to take Opal on her outings that blessed her so much and to everyone who loved and helped her through the years.
