Grady Patton "Pat" Sockwell, age 72, of Mont Belvieu, Texas, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022. Pat was born July 5, 1949, to Grady Bruton Sockwell and Doris Jo Hudson Sockwell, in Colbert County, Alabama.
Pat worked for 25 years in operations for the chemical plant industry. He worked for Bayer, Swift Chemicals, and Texas Oil & Chemical. He also worked for First National Bank in Tuscumbia, Alabama.
Pat was married to Phyllis Boyles Sockwell for 53 years. They had two sons. He and Phyllis enjoyed their son's football days and even sat in the cold or rain just like they did. They also loved Alabama football and were staunch fans. They bought a small soft football, only to discover it played their Alabama Fight Song! They had a ritual of tossing the ball when Alabama scored and had great times going "Roll Tide." He enjoyed reading a lot once he retired from Bayer. He read westerns, then read all Norah Roberts, and then many, many more. Pat also enjoyed photography, hunting, working in his shop, and being at the barn with the horses.
Pat was diagnosed a second time with prostate cancer in September 2019. With the help of Dr. Pamela Medellin at Texas Oncology, he was able to go into remission until 2021 when his cancer stopped responding. He fought hard to stay with us but, the Lord called him home.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Larry Joe Sockwell. He is survived by his wife Phyllis Boyles Sockwell, sons Scott Sockwell and wife Lillian, Shawn Sockwell and wife Denise; and grandchildren Karis and Sophia.
