Patricia Eugenia Liburd was born on September 27, 1954, in the beautiful village of Morne Jaune, Dominica. Her life became a journey marked by love, family, faith, perseverance, service, and an enduring commitment to learning and making a difference in the lives of others.
On October 5, 1972, Patricia married Leighton Liburd, beginning a life and partnership that would become an important part of her story. She knew both the sorrow and the joy of motherhood. She was the mother of a precious rainbow baby and was blessed with two living daughters, Negema Ernest and Chaune James. Her family continued to grow through her son-in-law, Oscar Jaimes, and her beloved grandchildren, Emma, Sebastian, and Calliope Jaimes, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Central to Patricia’s life was her love for God and her commitment to ministry. Alongside her husband, Leighton, she served as pastor of New Life Ministries International in Baytown, Texas. Together, they devoted themselves to the work God had entrusted to them, serving His people and building a ministry founded upon faith, love, and a desire to see lives transformed.
Following Leighton’s passing, Patricia continued the work they had begun together. Rather than allowing his passing to mark the end of their shared vision, she faithfully carried the legacy forward, continuing to pastor New Life Ministries International in Baytown until her own passing. In doing so, she honored not only the legacy of her husband but also the calling they had embraced together. The ministry they shared became part of the legacy she faithfully stewarded for the generations that would follow.
Patricia possessed a lifelong passion for education and personal growth. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Oral Roberts University and later continued her education at the University of Phoenix, where she earned a Master’s degree in Psychology. Never one to believe that age or accomplishment should bring learning to an end, Patricia continued pursuing her educational goals. At the time of her passing, she was completing her doctoral studies in education, demonstrating until the very end her determination to grow, learn, and leave something meaningful for the generations that would follow her.
Her academic accomplishments, however, represent only a portion of her life. Patricia’s greatest legacy is found in the people whose lives were touched by her presence, the family she loved, the ministry she served, the wisdom she shared, and the vision she refused to abandon.
Patricia Eugenia Liburd leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured simply by degrees earned, years lived, positions held, or accomplishments achieved. Her story lives on through her daughters, grandchildren, family, church family, and all those whose lives were made richer because her journey crossed theirs.
Though her earthly journey has ended, what she planted in others remains. The work continues through every life she touched, every seed she planted, and every person who carries forward something she imparted to them.
A life lived with purpose becomes a legacy that continues long after the journey is complete.
