A celebration of the life of Patsy Thomas will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 11:00am at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown, Texas. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 10:00am.
Patsy Ann Ivey Thomas, 93, of Baytown, Texas, passed away on December 31, 2025. Patsy was born in Barnum, Texas on September 27, 1932, the only child of Ernest Ivey and Carrie Robberson Ivey. She was married to Doyle Edwin Thomas, Jr for 69 years. Patsy was a life-long member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Pasty graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and attended Lee College where she studied business. She worked at Humble Oil and Refining Co. after finishing her education, and later at Memorial Baptist Church, and Lee College Continuing Education.
Patsy married Ed Thomas on April 17, 1954, at Memorial Baptist Church in Baytown. Later that year, they moved to Opelousas, Louisiana where Ed was employed as an engineer with Schlumberger Ltd. They returned to Baytown in 1956 when Ed was hired by Enjay Chemical Co., Inc.
Patsy was a member of the Baytown Junior Forum and was a top seller of tickets for the Red Stocking Review, proceeds benefitting local charities and organizations. She was active in LCESA (Lee College Educational Secretaries Association). She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at MBC.
Patsy and Edwin loved to travel. Together they traveled to England, Wales, Japan, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, and numerous states in the USA. She and Ed enjoyed a long retirement, which included spending time at their lake house in Trinity, Texas. It was a favorite gathering place for their children and grandchildren.
Patsy and Edwin were part of the ‘Luby’s Bunch,’ which included friends Jack and Betty Carpenter, and Ray and Jean McCain – so named because of their standing weekly meet-up at their favorite cafeteria. These three couples enjoyed decades of friendship which began as teenagers, and were truly each other’s extended family.
Patsy knew how to take care of babies and toddlers. She LOVED babies. When Kathleen and Gary were toddlers, her friend Betty had her first baby, Steven. Soon after bringing him home from the hospital, Betty called Patsy and said she needed help, that she didn’t know how to take care of a baby and was very intimidated by this tiny infant. Pat went to Betty’s house and spent the day giving Betty a baby-care tutorial. Many years later, Patsy did this same thing for her daughters when they each had their first baby.
Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, and great-grandson Xander Thomas Wade.
Patsy is survived by her children: Kathleen Ann Thomas Wade, and her husband Woody, of Jasper, TX; Gary Edwin Thomas, and his wife Rockell, of Baytown, TX; and Karen Leigh Thomas Platt, and her husband William, of Richmond, TX.
Patsy was blessed with:
Grandchildren – Ryan Andrew Wade (Marsha), Carrie Kathleen Wade Fowler (Jeff), Emily Rebekah Wade Miller (Kyle), Sarah Elisabeth Wade, Hannah Grace Wade, Randy Allen Thomas (Ashley), Robert Andrew Thomas (Tiffany), Carolyn Ann Thomas Wilburn (Chris), Abigail Ivey Platt Rodriguez (Theodore), Caroline Rose Platt (fiancé Kyle McElroy); and two bonus grandchildren – Holly Thomas and Jarred Thomas
Great-grandchildren – Eliana, Xander, and Asher Wade, Emma, Easton, and Ella Fowler, Emery, Everett, Jackson, and Hattie Miller, Brooke and Blake Thomas, Tenley and Grady Thomas, Calvin Thomas, Savanna and Waylon Wilburn, and August Rodriguez; Kena, Grace, and Wallace Thomas, and Paige Rome.
Patsy is also survived by numerous cousins.
The family would like to thank Pat’s neighbors, Lala and Geronimo Chapa, who took great care of Patsy and Edwin when they became unable to do their own lawn and household chores.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patsy’s honor to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Baytown Heritage Museum, or the charity or organization of your choosing that evokes fond memories of her.
