

Perry W. Britton, 87, of Baytown, TX was born October 14, 1920 in Beaumont and passed away at his home Thursday, November 22, 2007. He attended the University of Oklahoma Teachers College and graduated from Sam Houston State and attended the Harvard School of Banking. He was honorably discharged from the U. S. Army in 1946 after serving during WWII in the Pacific Theatre, flying “the hump” in China.
Perry’s father had extensive lumber and real estate business in Baytown and wanted him to move into that area, but Perry wanted banking and secured a position with People’s State Bank. He continued through the years in all banking positions through the presidency and then the Chairman of the Board. Over these many years of contributing to the financial well being of Baytown citizens, he was active in many civic organizations and committees. He served as President of the Baytown Kiwanis Club, Chairman of the Board for the Baytown Chamber of Commerce, was a board member for the Moody House Foundation in Galveston, and served in many other organizations, too many of which to list. He also served in many leadership roles as an active member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. He and his wife Lou had many adventures together while traveling throughout the globe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William C. and Necy Britton and is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lou Aleen Fuller Britton of Baytown; sister, Mona Britton Plunk of Silsbee; sister-in-law, Joy Stewart Stephens of Baytown; nephew, Judge Britt Plunk of Silsbee; nieces, Mary Susan Plunk of Elgin, Lila Lou Stephens Ackler of Portland, OR, Linda Lee Stephens Hopkins of Hillsboro, OR, and Lisa Stephens Molseed of Mercer Island, WA; 1 great niece and 2 great nephews; and numerous friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jere Johnson, Jim Cauley, George Ward, Scott Walding, Leon Brown, Scott Hamilton, Bob Buntin, and David Roark. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Edwards, Bookman Peters, Tom Hebel, Tad Patton, and Mark Owens.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Funeral service will be Monday, November 26, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 3811 N. Main, Baytown, TX 77521 with Rev. Mike Proctor officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster.
In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church Capital Improvement Fund or the charity of one’s choice.
