

Rex ""Redbone"" Petty, 59, of Dayton was born November 27, 1952 in Baytown and passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012 in a Houston hospital. He attended Robert E. Lee High School and was a U. S. Marine Corps Viet Nam veteran. He was a founding member of the Brown Bag Buddies, an advocacy group that provides school supplies and other basic items for students and families in crisis in the Liberty County area school districts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Tony Petty and sister, Billie Sue. He is survived by his wife, June Petty of Dayton; son, James Morgan Petty of Germany; daughters and son-in-law, Kelly Petty of Webster and Kacie and Brett Hillin of Newton; parents, Dorothy and Walter Simpson of Baytown; brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter B. and Veronica Simpson of Humble, Glen and Holly Simpson of Loveland, CO, Walter A., Jr. and Lisa Simpson of Tampa, FL, and Ron and Judy Simpson of Columbia, SC; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Bobby Mullens and Lisa and Bill Horton, all of Baytown; dogs, Nick Nick and Gracie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services with military honors will be Friday, April 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Bobby Mullens and Ron Simpson officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be George Fielding, Troy Bettes, Bobby Topping, Bubba Tanner, and Ray Stewart.
