He was born April 24, 1954 in Cleveland, Mississippi and moved to Baytown, Texas in 1975.
A hard-working man, Ricky perfected his craft of welding to the level of Heliarc (Stainless steel), working at Oxy Chemical in Pasadena as a contractor for 25+ years. Ricky used his talent of manipulating metal to create many wonderful works of art of which he gifted to those of whom he cared for. He was a simple man, who loved his family, loved the Lord and was considered a true southern-gentleman. He will be missed dearly by many.
Ricky was proceeded in death by his parents Bennie and Charles Vowell, grandparents Victaw and Gertrude Vowell and Luther and Corrie Patridge; his brother, Mike Vowell; his aunt’s Glena, Lillie-Dell, Joan, Sammie, Tince, Jamie, Eris, Althen and Jo, and uncle’s Clifford, VJ, Edison and Douglas.
Ricky is survived by his daughter Jessica Vowell Chandler, son-in-law Nathan Chandler; sister, Sharon Jackson, brother-in-law Bill Jackson, and two nieces Mary and Kaylee. He is also survived by his Aunt Deane and her husband, Gene, Aunt Sue and her husband Jim, Aunt Bonnie and cousins Clifford and Katina Vowell, Sherry and Buddy Hughes and many other family members.
We would like to acknowledge the wonderful support of Houston Hospice for their help in assuring his comfort in his last days.
Services will be on March 2nd at 11:00am at Cedar Bayou Grace United Methodist Church (Chapel), 2714 Ferry Road, Baytown, Texas 77520, with a small reception at Navarre Funeral home 2444 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, Texas directly proceeding the service.
