

He was born April 7, 1921 in Camden, New Jersey to his late parents, John Kelly and Marie Eleanor Taffee Kelly. He grew up in Pennsauken, New Jersey and was valedictorian of his high school class. He was in the army during World War II starting in an anti aircraft unit and was stationed in Germany after the war investigating war crimes.
While in Germany, he started writing Betty Jane Neil, the sister of one of the men in his unit. They were married May 17, 1947. He worked for Weyerhaeuser Company after the war. This took them from New Jersey to Nebraska and then on to Chicago, and Seattle. Prior to their moving to Baytown in 2004, they lived in Glendora, CA. for 24 years. One of the things they enjoyed doing was going to the ""Tonight Show"" with Johnny Carson. They went to over 800 of his shows and knew most of the staff. They also went to many of the ""Wheel of Fortune"" and other game shows. When Johnny Carson was leaving the Tonight Show, they were interviewed by local television stations and by the NBC and CBS nightly news.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters, Marile Randolph and Dorothy Wonderlin; and brother, John Kelly.
Survivors include his son, Bob Kelly and his wife Lois of Baytown; grandchildren, Susan Linenschmidt and her husband Mark of League City and Angela Kelly of Mesquite; great-grandchild, Jordan Linenschmidt and sister, Eleanor Reynolds of Bordentown, New Jersey.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2010 with a service beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Mike Proctor officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Linenschmidt, Mike Mason, Scott Walding, Branden Williams, Mel Stone, and Dave Beltram.
