Roy Martinez

Roy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Not one time would he miss a televised football game of Steelers playing and would always wear the Steelers gear to show his support. His true passion was the love for men's fast pitch softball. As a young man, Roy would play in tournaments almost every weekend till he couldn't play anymore. After his playing days were over you would catch him every summer at the Latin American Fast Pitch tournament strolling along his ice chest. If he wasn't playing or attending a fast pitch tournament he would be traveling with his daughters to watch them play softball. He cherished his grandchildren and they meant the world to him. Till his last days he was at the park watching his grandchildren play baseball or whatever sport they were involved in. He was never one to hold back and tell you what was on his mind. Roy will be missed but never forgotten. He was our shining star, and had the confidence that earned him the right to be called ""Big Daddy"" Roy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggy Martinez and brother, Jimmy Martinez. Survivors include his children, Christine Carrizal of Houston, Ernest Martinez of Baytown, Mike Marron and his wife Kim of Houston, Denise Martinez and her husband Rafael Moreno of Baytown and Angela Cruz and her fiancé Mike Gomez of Baytown; brothers, Arthur Martinez and his wife Hilda, Julio Martinez, Jr. and Glenn Martinez all of Baytown; 16 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 7, 2012 at Navarre Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon George Rincon. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Dwight Canizares officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ernest Martinez, Joseph Pereira, Roland Watts, Rafael Moreno, Pedro Garcia Jr., Kevin Martinez, Kenny Martinez and Jason Martinez.

It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone, a part of us went with you the day God called you home. God looked around his garden, and found an empty space. He looked down upon the earth, and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you, and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful for he only takes the best.
