Ruth Aline Jacobs Colburn of Baytown was accepted into the loving arms of her Savior on October 23, 2008. A native of Baytown, she was born November 29, 1922 to Rufus and Amelia Jacobs. Along with her brothers, the late Albert Jacobs and the late R. B. Jacobs and sisters Alice Kimmey and Betty Jo Harrison, the family made their home in Baytown while father Rufus was employed as a railroad engineer for the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, ultimately responsible for the Old Engine 895 that was restored and is located in Roseland Park. During World War II she was employed in the defense industry and later was employed by Citizens National Bank. She also served as registrar's secretary at Lee College until her retirement.
Ruth was a loving and faithful wife and a caring and devoted mother, having married Russell Colburn, Jr. (deceased July 17, 2007) on May 29, 1944. She was a founding member of First Baptist Church of Goose Creek later becoming Memorial Baptist Church where she served in many capacities.
Her love of family and friends was so evident in the consistent and principled life that was testimony, every day, in her quite manner, of her love and belief in the Lord Jesus Christ. The sixty plus years of marriage she shared with Russell inspires all that know of the true devotion, unselfish sharing and consistent love and respect for the sanctity of the vows of marriage.
She is survived by daughter, Dianna Estep and husband Mike, of Spring, Texas and grandchildren, Michael Estep and wife Crystal, Brandon Estep and Allison Ballard and husband Jeff; son Ronald Colburn and wife Sherry of Addison, Texas and grandchildren Stacey Beyhan and husband Tim, Christy Harwell and husband Chapan and Laurie Bien and husband Kirk; great-grandchildren, Kylie, Tiffin and Tyler Beyhan and Luke and Addyson Bien; sisters Alice Kimmey and Betty Jo Harrison and husband Curtis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends its sincere appreciation to the loving care provided by the staff of Remington Park in Baytown and Silverado Senior Living in Spring. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the general fund of Memorial Baptist Church, 600 West Sterling, Baytown, Texas 77520.
The family will welcome friends at the Navarre Funeral Home on Sunday October 26th from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday October 27th at 11 AM in the Chapel at Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Hoffman officiating. There will be a private internment at Memory Gardens.
