Salim K. Bou-Chebl passed away on April 29, 2007 of acute myeloid leukemia. He was 71. He loved life and as a valiant patient he fought death in his courageous, yet calm manner. He was one of those rare human beings gifted with an incredible intellect, sharp wit, and deep compassion. These qualities made him extremely special and he easily earned the respect, admiration and love of his family, friends and colleagues.
He is survived by his wife Mary of 45 years; his son, Saba Bou-Chebl and his wife Janet and his granddaughter, Blair. Also by his brother Joseph and his wife, Lila and his sister-in-law, Helen. He had five loving nephews: Walid, Khalid, George, Adel and Fadi and their families. He has two loving nieces, Fadia and Mona and their families. He had many kind and loving friends.
Salim was born in Chweir, Lebanon in 1935. He attended the American University of Beirut in Lebanon where he received a degree in ancient history and archeology. He went on to get an Engineering and Math degree at University of Houston and worked as an engineer for Brown and Root for 42 years. He was assigned to Exxon Projects for the past 20 years.
Salim will be best remembered for his absolute optimism and his complete faith that God's will would be done. He was always secure in who he was as a man and he had a deep appreciation for family and friends. His strong values followed him in all of his decisions and his actions. His code of morality will continue to stand as his living memorial. He will be greatly missed.
His family wishes to thank the staff and nurses on the 8th floor of the Main Building at Methodist Hospital, the Hematology Department at Methodist Hospital and especially Dr. Rice and Dr. McCarty who were continually supportive and compassionate.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the evening until seven on Saturday, the 5th of May at Navarre Funeral Home & Cremation Services located at 2444 Rollingbrook Drive, Baytown, Texas 77521. The following Saturday, May 12, the family will gather for a private memorial service.
