

Samuella “Sammy” Lundy Courville, 84, of Baytown, was born in Baytown on December 5, 1933, to Mildred Comeaux Lundy and Sam Lundy and went to be with her heavenly Father on Thursday, February 8, 2018. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and attended Lee College. On September 26, 1953, she married Luke Courville of Eunice, Louisiana in Baytown. To that union was born two children. She was a secretary for the Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District for 29 years, retiring in July 1992.
Sammy was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, serving her stewardship in various ways. She participated in Keenagers of St. John, Catholic Daughters Court Mary St. John #2197 for over 50 years, Beautify Bayway Committee, Friends of Sterling Library, Lakewood Civic Association, Baytown Area Retired School Employees Association, Texas Retired Teachers Association, and Baytown Genealogy Society. She was a charter member of the Lee College Red Hat Society and a member of Delta Gamma Chapter of Phi Sigma Alpha, where she served as president, was selected sweetheart in 1983, and in 1984 was chosen “Woman of the Year”. She participated in Grandmother’s Club #347, Baytown Educational Secretaries Association, Texas State Teachers Association, and the Texas Education Secretaries Association.
She was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, wonderful sister, and a favorite aunt and lifelong friend. Sammy touched the life of everyone she knew. She always had a smile, a big hug and a word of encouragement. If you were hugged by Sammy, you were surely touched by an angel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 44 years, Luke; sister, Barbara Nelson; and grandson, Kelly Lee McCoy. She leaves to rejoice in her memory sisters, Willia Wells of Austin and Joyce Stansbury of Port Arthur; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and A. J. Kubecka of Houston and Brenda and Gary McCoy of Mt. Enterprise; grandchildren, Christopher John Kubecka and wife Nicole of Houston, Matthew Luke Kubecka and wife Elena of Houston, and Meghan Elizabeth McCoy of Houston. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Visitation will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church, 800 W. Baker Rd., Baytown, TX 77521, on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with a rosary said at 10:30 a.m. A Memorial Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Terence P. Brinkman officiating. A private interment at White Cemetery in Highlands will be conducted at a later date.
