

Sara June Barnes Watkins, 81, of Baytown, went to be with the Lord, Friday, February 4, 2011, after a lengthy illness. She was born on June 13, 1929, in Houston, TX. Sara was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her. Sara was a member of Wooster Baptist Church. Sara enjoyed traveling, reading, researching history, painting and collecting antiques with her sister Ora Mae. Sara also loved working on ""handyman projects"" and woodworking. Out of all of the things that she enjoyed, it was her family that brought her the most joy. When Sara became ill, her greatest motivation to get better was to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sara was excited about the news that her granddaughter, Melissa, would be bringing a new addition to the family soon. She thrived on sharing her love with family. Sara was well known for her kindness and loving nature. The best gift she gave to her husband, sons, daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and extended family was uninterrupted time, love and devotion. Sara was a very special woman and was loved by all.
She was preceded in death by her son, Brent Watkins and parents, Ora Georgia Gutierrez Barnes and Frank Albert Barnes. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, George Morris Watkins, son and daughter-in-law, Steve Watkins and Lisa Payne Watkins, daughter, Donna Watkins Swope, and daughter-in law, Judy Watkins Bennett and husband Michael Bennett, all of Baytown; sister, Ora Mae Hood of Lago Vista; sisters-in-law, Virginia Watkins and Mary Francis Watkins; 9 grandchildren, Melissa Watkins of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Brandon Watkins of Baytown, Ryan Watkins of San Marcos, Shane Swope of Baytown, Brent Watkins and wife Kathy of San Diego, CA, Cody Watkins of Baytown, Brittany Watkins of Baytown, Kortnie Bennett of Baytown, and Cody Bennett of Baytown; 4 great grandchildren, Christopher Glasser and Katelyn June Marie Glasser of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Brenden Swope of Baytown, and River Watkins of San Diego, CA.; and many nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive friends Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Navarre Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Navarre Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 7, 2011, with Chaplin Stephen Schwartz officiating. Burial will follow at White Cemetery in Highlands, TX.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Watkins, Ryan Watkins, Shane Swope, Brent Watkins, Cody Watkins, and Michael Bennett. Honorary pallbearer will be Brenden Swope.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Judy Watkins Bennett, nurses, Veronica and Amit, and the staff at the Hospice Compassus for the love, kindness and tender care provided to our dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. In addition, we express our appreciation to our family and friends for the support provided during this very difficult time.
