Sharon Lynn Gibson, formerly a resident of Highlands, left this life on April 5, 2012 at Legend Oaks Willowbrook in Houston. Her family was by her side as she journeyed home to be with the Lord. Sharon was preceded in death by her father Lloyd L. Gibson who died in 1971. When her mother Opal Wilson Gibson passed away in 1977, Sharon lived with her sister Peggy Tieman’s family. In 2000, Sharon came to the home of her sister Betty Harman and husband Oswall H. Harman.
Beyond her family, Sharon was nurtured and loved by the members of Northside Baptist Church in Highlands where she praised and worshiped for 38 years. Sharon, a down’s syndrome child, was a member of the youth group for 36 years, and a member of the adult class for two. Sharon loved music - Christian, Lawrence Welk, and especially Rogers and Hammerstein. Sharon loved children, and with her childlike spirit, she gently shepherded them until they were old enough to look after themselves.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Opal Gibson, her brothers Lloyd L. Gibson, Jr. and LaVerne Neal Gibson, her sister Peggy Jean Tieman, and brothers-in-law Bill Tieman and Oswall H. Harman. She is survived by her sister Betty Ruth Harman, numerous nieces and nephews, and multiple generations of children she loved and taught that her differences were our blessings.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Earthman Funeral Home in Baytown. A funeral service conducted by David Brumbelow, pastor of Northside Baptist Church of Highlands, will be held at following the visitation at 11:00 am.
