Virginia Dare Duncan, 88, of Baytown, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 21, 2013. Virginia was born on October 3, 1924 in Cedar Bayou, Texas to Odell and Lucille Fisher. It was being raised on the family homestead east of Baytown that she would lovingly refer to as having been raised on ""the prairie"".
After graduating from high school, Virginia worked for the City of Baytown, for a local doctor's office, and a local radio station. On January 26, 1957 she married Asa Duncan. Virginia and Asa met when his cousin, Jewel Steele, introduced them. As she and Asa's family grew Virginia became a dedicated homemaker. Virginia was a longtime member of Trinity Tabernacle Assembly of God Church in Baytown. She loved children and took on any role in the church that would allow her time with them. She worked in the church nursery and taught Sunday School; all the while being active in the women's ministry. Virginia also enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family. Everyone will miss her fried chicken and gravy followed by her delicious German chocolate cake. Virginia's gentleness, kindness, and devotion to her family will be missed by all who knew her.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Stewart ""Slim"" and J.T. Fisher. She is survived by her husband, Asa Duncan; her children and their spouses, Richard and Sally Shafer, Ronnie and Tami Duncan, Sandy and Joseph Brewer, and Phyllis Duncan; her grandchildren and their spouses, Anita and Ed Thompson, Johnny Shafer, Jody Shafer, Joel and Lanyce Miller, Dean Duncan, Allison and Fostur Stanley, Caroline and Robert Morales, Marian Brewer, and Daniel Bertrand; and 8 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home, with burial to follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery, 3010 Ferry Road, Baytown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Virginia's honor to the Alzheimer Association – Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter, 2242 West Holcombe Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77030, or online at www.alz.org.
