

Virginia Ann Whitesides passed away at age 92 on Tuesday, December 21, 2004. She was born on August 13, 1912, in Montgomery County, Texas. Virginia was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend and will be missed by many. Her life was a testament to the strength of love and hard work that always leads to successful outcomes.
A graveside memorial service to remember and celebrate her life is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2004 at the Cedar Bayou Masonic Cemetery in Baytown, Texas.
At the age of five she moved with her family to Baytown, where she lived most of her life. She was a charter member of First Baptist Church in Baytown and a member of the first graduating class of Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown in 1929. She was a graduate of Massey Business College in Houston and employed for many years by the Baytown Employees Federation and the Gulf Coast Industrial Workers Union in Baytown. She moved to New Braunfels, Texas in 1999 to be close to family members and became a member of First Baptist Church there. She was able to live independently in New Braunfels for four years but was a resident of Eden Home at the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by her father William Knight, stepfather W. B. Dumas, mother Blanche Griffith Dumas, brother Preston Dumas, and niece LuAnn Dumas.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Bill Mixon of New Braunfels and Jenny and Wendell Erwin of Houston. She is survived by five grandchildren and their spouses, Jenny & Mark Klebenow of San Antonio, Mike and Kathy Mixon of Baytown, Andy Mixon of New Braunfels, Tim and Beth Mixon of Temple, Texas, and Steve and Karen Erwin of Houston. She leaves eight great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Elliot Klebenow, Jordan and Trent Mixon, Caroline, Abby and Anna Grace Mixon, and Emily Erwin. Her four grandsons and two sons-in-law have been designated honorary pallbearers.
She is also survived by a brother and wife Ben and Margaret Beth Dumas of Sugar Land, Texas; a sister-in-law Perle Dumas of Monroe, Louisiana; nephews and wives Philip and Marilyn Dumas and Preston and Sandy Dumas, Jr.; niece Pattie Dumas; and great-nephews and great-nieces Nathan, Brooke, Chase, and Rachel Dumas.
In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make a memorial contribution to one of the following New Braunfels organizations: Eden Home, Hope Hospice, or First Baptist Church Building Fund.
