Wayland Eastman

Wayland ""Papa"" Eastman of Baytown was called home to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 95 on Friday, December 19, 2008. He was born on February 15, 1913 in Polk County to George and Nancy Eastman. He drove a logging truck for 3 years and later went to work for Dow in Freeport, TX in 1942. He then came to Baytown to work for Humble Oil & Refinery on January 2, 1945. He retired from Exxon Refinery after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Bible Missionary Church in Baytown. He loved working in his vegetable garden, hunting, fishing, playing dominoes, bingo and singing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verla Eastman; daughter, Linda Tindol; son-in-law, John Tindol; brother, Myrl Eastman; and sisters, Alvie Jolly, Myrtie Hill and Ora Southward. He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-laws, Tommy and Tresa Eastman of Baytown and David and Jo Eastman of Dayton; daughters and son-in-laws, Nancy and Ray Mitchell, Patsy and Ren Fitts and Jan Eastman, all of Baytown; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one sweet boy on the way; and many friends.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Navarre Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, December 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Reverend Frank Black officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers will be his sons Tommy Eastman and David Eastman and grandsons Rodney Tindol, Bart Tindol, Dan Eastman, Kyle Mitchell, David Eastman Jr. and Eric Mongiello. Recognized as an honorary pallbearer will be Stephen Fitts, who is serving with the U. S. Air Force in Afghanistan.

His family would like to express gratitude to the staff and nurses at Green Acres of Baytown and the AMED Hospice caregivers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bible Missionary Church, 806 Bowie Street, Baytown, Texas 77520.
